Building Bridges HBCU Program

The Building Bridges HBCU Program is the largest HBCU-focused initiative in New England, serving over 2,500 students annually alongside more than 300 educators. Since its founding, the program has partnered with over 20 HBCUs, creating meaningful opportunities and access for high school students, families, and school communities.

To date, we have supported students helping them secure more than $12 million in scholarships and facilitating over 650 on-the-spot college acceptances for high school seniors. The Building Bridges HBCU Program continues to play a transformative role in expanding access to higher education - connecting students and families directly to HBCUs and empowering the next generation to thrive.

What To Expect!

Our Goals

  • HBCUs have a rich legacy of providing quality education and fostering leadership among African American communities. The program aims to preserve and strengthen this legacy by supporting HBCUs and increasing enrollment, ensuring that these institutions continue to thrive and play a vital role in advancing educational attainment and social justice.

  • The program seeks to expand access to HBCUs for students in New England, a region where such opportunities may be limited. By promoting enrollment in HBCUs, particularly among African American and low-income students in New England, the program aims to create pathways for these individuals to access high-quality education opportunities that may not be readily available in their local communities.

  • The program seeks to address socioeconomic inequities by targeting students from low-income families. HBCUs have a strong track record of serving low-income students, and by facilitating their enrollment, the program helps to provide access opportunities for upward mobility and economic empowerment.

  • The HBCU Road Shows provide HBCU representatives an opportunity to visit high schools across Massachusetts. During these visits, HBCU reps engage with school, district leadership and students.

  • Student sessions at the Building Bridges HBCU Program are designed to equip students with the knowledge, tools, and confidence needed to successfully navigate the college process with a focus on HBCUs.

  • An evening honoring the rich legacy and transformative impact of HBCUs. This special gathering offers an opportunity to connect, celebrate Building Bridges Education’s mission and partners, and spotlight the power of HBCU excellence.

  • The HBCU Fair brings together HBCUs from across the country, offering students direct access to admissions representatives, scholarship opportunities, and institutional insights. This fair allows students and families to engage in meaningful conversations, explore a wide range of academic programs, and take critical steps in their college journey.

  • On-site interview Day offer high school seniors the opportunity to connect directly with HBCU admission representatives from various institutions. These interviews provide students with the opportunity to showcase their strengths, discuss their interests and aspirations, and potentially secure admission and scholarships to their desired HBCU.
